OK, here is how to port your own toons around, on the same account as your mage:
1. Login the toon that needs a port (the portee). Make sure you are in a place where you are resting (town or inn). Invite a friend to group. Make them party leader. DC out of the game by clicking atl F4. (The game will keep your toon in the party because it thinks you DC and will brb).
2. Startup WoW and login your mage. Make sure you are in the same location as the 'portee'. Have your friend, the party leader to invite you to the party. You should now be in party with your friend and the portee who is DC.
3. Make a portal to the desired town. Logout, using the logout button. You should logout instantly if you are in a place where you are resting (meaning no 20second wait). You will be at the character login screen, login your portee. Click the portal.
